Who is it for? Anyone age +18 who would like to increase their confidence and self-esteem. What to bring?
The workshop will only take place with a minimum of 3 participants. |
During this workshop, we will work with the visual metaphor of the tree as a representation of your life. You will be invited to draw your own tree and write about each part of your tree, each symbolising a part of your life. You will (re)discover the richness and diversity of your life stories. You will explore your skills, hopes, heritage and culture and identify who and what really matters to you. Your tree will shine a new perspective on your life's journey so far and possibly bring it added meaning. It will give you a sense of empowerment and make you feel more connected to others. And because a tree rarely grows on its own, you will also experience the value of the collective experience, the forest. Our life is influenced by the stories we tell about ourselves, they shape how we view ourselves and what we do. And we often get stuck into a simplified and problematic story of ourselves. This workshop will support you in exploring elements of your life that might have been overshadowed or dismissed. Outline of the day: After introducing ourselves and talking about the practicalities of the day, you will be invited to draw your own tree and write about each part. We will then spend time listening to and sharing stories about our trees, and see how the knowledge they carry could support us in times of need. And to end the day, we'll celebrate our little forest. The Tree of Life is an approach from narrative therapy, initially developed by Ncazelo Ncube-Mlilo, a Zimbabwean psychologist, in collaboration with David Denborough, an Australian community practitioner, to support children in the Masiye Camp who experienced a lot of hardships. Since its beginning, the Tree of Life has been adapted and used in many various contexts. I had the chance to train in this practice directly with Ncazelo Ncube-Mlilo and I've witnessed the positive impact that this storytelling approach had on my clients. |
